Modulo Player powers Luminiscence Paris, an immersive spectacular in iconic Parisian church

Since 16 February 2024, the Luminiscence show has been illuminating the iconic Church of Saint-Eustache in Paris, France. Conceived and produced by LOTCHI, the Luminiscence project is designed to bring the most beautiful religious monuments to life through an immersive, multi-sensory experience. To light up the remarkable Parisian monument, 24 x video projectors have been installed, powered by 7 x Modulo Player media servers from Modulo Pi.

Founded in 2023, LOTCHI’s mission is to create first-class immersive shows to illuminate the most beautiful places of worship. Called Luminiscence, the concept is based on a monumental light and sound show designed to enhance the architecture of the site, while also revealing its history and secrets.

After a highly successful first experience that drew more than 96,000 spectators to Bordeaux cathedral, Luminiscence moved to Paris in February.
The project was set up in the heart of the prestigious Church of Saint-Eustache, second largest church in Paris located in the heart of Paris’ 1st arrondissement and Halles district.

Olivier Danna, Co-founder and Production Director at LOTCHI, explains: “We wanted to roll out an experience in Paris quickly. After seeing the show in Bordeaux, the Church of Saint-Eustache was convinced.”

The new Luminiscence show was due to be launched in February 2024 to coincide with the 800th anniversary of the Paris building. Teams of LOTCHI teams were faced to a tight schedule to dismantle the AV equipment in Bordeaux and set it up in Saint-Eustache.

A total of 24 x Barco G100-W22 video-projectors were installed to illuminate the building and offer a remarkable immersive experience for the 560 spectators attending each performance.

The massive projection – 61m long, 13m wide and 30m high – is delivered using 7 x Modulo Player media servers. Modulo Pi’s media server solution allows to easily map all the intricate details of Saint-Eustache’s architecture, and its mixture of Flamboyant Gothic, Renaissance and Classical styles.

“The powerful warping capabilities of Modulo Player allowed us to easily distorte our media so that they perfectly fit the architecture,” says Olivier Danna.

Since mid-February, several performances of the 360° spectacular show created by LOTCHI and Ateliers BK have been played each night by Modulo Player. The media server also controls the lighting equipment involved in the show.

During 40 minutes and thanks to the state-of-the-art audiovisual installation, visitors seated in the nave discover the rich history and best-kept secrets of the Saint-Eustache Church, from its construction to its majestic stained glass windows and grandiose organ.

To date, more than 70,000 people have enjoyed the Luminiscence show. In response to its success, the immersive experience initially scheduled to run until May 25 has been extended until August 12.
