La Clusaz ski resort unveils interactive immersive experience powered by Modulo Pi’s media servers

Nestled in the French Alps, La Clusaz’s Beau Regard Station takes on a new dimension with Libertaz, a unique immersive show blending visual art, sound, light, and interactivity. Designed by Superbien and brought to life with ID Scènes, the experience is powered by Modulo Pi’s Modulo Kinetic media server solution, offering a multi-sensory dive into the alpine imagination.

In response to climate challenges and the need to diversify its activities, the alpine commune of La Clusaz is reimagining the mountain experience with the launch of the new Immersive Space at the Beau Regard Station.

Located at the foot of the slopes, the space—typically used to store the 40 gondola cabins of the station lift overnight—has been transformed to host Libertaz, a playful, immersive sensory experience.

Initiated by SATELC, the project is part of the resort’s broader effort to expand its offerings beyond skiing. The studio Superbien led artistic direction, graphic design, and part of the interactive content. AV integration and real-time programming were handled by ID Scènes, with the original soundtrack composed by Studio 31dB. The result is a 360° experience across 200 sqm, inviting visitors to journey through four immersive scenes inspired by the alpine environment.

One of the project’s main challenges lay in the unusual nature of the space—both a technical facility and an immersive venue. “The room had to remain fully flexible. In the event of strong winds or heavy snow, the gondolas need to be brought inside at any time. The whole system had to coexist with this logistical constraint while remaining reliable, even in potentially very cold conditions,” explains Quentin Grêlé, media server operator and graphic designer at ID Scènes.

To deliver a playful experience, the 8-minute show combines pre-rendered visuals with real-time interactive sequences.

From the pre-show, each visitor activates a particle system that follows their movements throughout the immersive space. In another sequence, the entire room is transformed into a snowy landscape, where visitors’ gestures gradually reveal projected textures across the walls and floor. “The tracking system is based on a 3D LiDAR sensor from Ouster for the floor, and a Hokuyo UST-20LX 2D LiDAR for each wall,” explains Quentin Grêlé. “The interactivity is smooth, responsive, and designed to work even with a full audience.”

At the core of the system, Modulo Kinetic media servers by Modulo Pi manage media playback, interactivity, and the overall show control.

The setup includes one Kinetic Designer workstation and two V-Node servers, each equipped with 6 outputs and HDMI input cards, allowing the venue to support event-based configurations.

The media servers power 13 x Epson EB-PU1007 video-projectors, aligned using Modulo Kinetic’s integrated warping and blending tools.

Interactive sequences are made possible by Modulo Pi’s media server and its advanced features: support for 2D and 3D LiDAR sensors, particle engine, real-time timelines, and a node-based programming editor.

The entire installation is fully automated, with a custom control interface built in Kinetic Designer. It allows staff to run the experience independently.

“We created a highly intuitive interface to manage everything — launching the show, adjusting start times, monitoring capacity… We even included an HDMI insert system for events, with a ready-to-use PowerPoint template.”

Libertaz accommodates up to 50 visitors per session, with an optimal capacity of 35 guests.
Open daily from early February to mid-April, the immersive and interactive space at Beau Regard Station also offers night sessions twice a week. The installation received very positive feedback, attracting tourists and hosting corporate evening events.

The space will reopen in summer, continuing its mission to promote the region through an innovative and sustainable approach.
